Help! I Got Body Slammed in Meditation!

Have you ever been in a meditation and then, BAM! Out of nowhere it feels like you fell at warp speed from the sky and “slammed” back into your body?

This can happen when someone shakes you out of a deep meditation and you are “away” from your body. When this happens, it’s jarring and can leave you feeling confused, disoriented, and even angry. Sometimes you don’t come fully back either, an important reason why you never want to abruptly pull someone out of a meditative state. A good teacher or guide is trained on how to gently bring a person or group back, and various shamans are trained in soul retrieval for these very reasons.

But this is not the only way to get “body-slammed” as I like to call it.

Remember, your subconscious runs the show, and sometimes in deep meditation you access parts of yourself you have previously forgotten. When you open yourself up in this way, you access a massive portal of power, your power.

This can be surprisingly frightening when you realize just how powerful you are and how limitless that power is. You may subconsciously recoil in fear because you only know and understand the limitations of existing as a human. When you experience something as explosive as this, it literally might be so much to handle that you get blown right back into your body, as now you have a whole new perspective to process. You might never be the same.

Your higher self is actually doing you a favor and keeping you safe at this point. We will never be given more than we can handle. This extraordinary amount of information that gets revealed can take a person months or years to sift through, assimilate, and integrate. Were you to see more, your physical reality may become distorted to the point where you’re not able to function in the world, which is why you got pulled back down to Earth.

Another, less common reason for slamming back is because you’re somewhere you’re “not supposed to be”. If you’ve ever read anything by Carlos Castaneda you might understand what I’m talking about here on a deeper level.

For the advanced “travelers” out there, a meditation could lead you to a different realm. You might be led by an entity or guide into a place that potentially could harm you (which is why you should stay aware of who you’re with and never take any gifts that aren’t of the highest good). Things are out there that want your shiny light, and our energy fields can attract some sticky situations if we’re not careful.

Potentially you could have picked up some hitchhikers, and that heavy energy may very well be force enough to slam you back, or possibly your subconscious or guides pulled you out of the danger/potential danger.

You may also reach a level of bliss when you are out traveling and not actually want to come back from it. Here on Earth we experience polarity and separation, out in the ethos we experience oneness — our true nature. It is such a powerful feeling not had on this planet in such intensity, so we don’t want to leave that state of love and light. Yet, we are spirit incarnate in human form, so when we do have to come back, it feels like falling from heaven back into hell.

Another thing that happens when you are deep in meditation is your sense of hearing heightens. A loud noise from outside can slam you back, and if a sound healer accidently drops something, a facilitator reintroduces their voice at a loud level, or even if someone coughs that can pull you out too.

If this happens to you, make sure you take some time to readjust, and if you’re in a session, let the leader know. Here are a few tips that can help. However, if you feel a bit out of it for more than a week, find a practitioner who works with soul retrieval and energy healing.

What to do if you get body-slammed:

  • Don’t get up right away. Take some deep breaths, feeling your body expand and contract. If there’s a facilitator, have them guide you through some gentle breathwork to be fully present in your body.

  • Drink some water, slowly and consciously. Be as physically present as possible and see, sense, feel, know, or imagine the water bringing you back to life.

  • Call yourself back by saying “I am here now, fully back, and complete. I call back to me all my scattered energy”

  • Cleanse your energy field by brushing off your body and hair, use crystals like selenite and kyanite, sound cleanse, smudge, shower, or use your own ritual.

  • Write down anything you can remember that feels important about the experience.

  • Make sure to set up protection when you meditate, and especially if you tend to travel. It can be as simple as imagining a forcefield or bubble around you, setting up a crystal grid, or asking ArchAngel Michael to protect you.

  • Be aware of how you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally for the next few days. See a practitioner right away if you feel dizzy, disorientated, or if you’re hallucinating.
