Qi Gong

Qi gong is the foundation for Tai Chi, like Yoga it has been practiced for thousands of years. Qi gong translates to the practice of moving energy. Qi gong focuses on breath and movement to open up the energy flow in the body. Qi gong is commonly referred to as meditation in motion. There are many benefits to Qi Gong. You start to use your whole body and by lifting up your own weight you build up strength, endurance, and balance. This practice tones your muscles and stretch tendons and ligaments. Bringing your energy back into balance can alleviate stress, anxiety, depressive disorders. When you become grounded and relaxed you feel better. Qi gong also opens up the circulatory system because qi moves blood. This may help to lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Qi Gong is also good for digestion and respiratory conditions. It can boost brain health by balancing both hemispheres of the brain. Qi gong can help with neurological disorders like Parkinson’s, ALS, Alzheimer’s improving fine and gross motor movements. It has also been known to help with osteoarthritis, osteopenia, and osteoporosis by strengthening the bones and joints. There will be brief meditation integrating breathe-work with a combination of chanting, singing bowls, and aromatherapy, and an inspirational reading at the end of each class.
